Lotus

Lotus Cars is a British company founded in 1952 that manufactures sports cars and racing cars with its headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk. The company was formed as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by engineers Colin Chapman and Colin Dare, both graduates of University College, London. The four letters in the middle of the logo stand for the initials of company founder, Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman. Chapman’s design philosophy focused on cars with light weight and fine handling instead of bulking up on horsepower and spring rates, which he famously summarised as “Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.”

Their incredible racing creations dominated Formula One, and spawned 7 Formula One Constructors’ Championships and 6 Formula One World Driver’s Championships, and the illustrious roster of Lotus race drivers includes Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ronnie Peterson, Jochen Rindt, Mario Andretti and Stirling Moss, amongst many others.

Hexagon’s association with Lotus Cars started in 1964, when Hexagon became a Lotus main dealer, selling and servicing the range of Lotus cars. Lotus Cars started their business in premises close by to Hexagon, in Hornsey, North London. In the 1970’s Hexagon went on to compete against Lotus and other world class brands in the Formula One World Championship. The sports cars that Lotus produced, Elite, Seven, Elan, Europa, Esprit to name just a few, became instant sports classics.
